Happy Adopt-A-Cat Month

While Muttskis is generally all about dogs and cats, we still love cats and kittens! That’s why I urge you to celebrate this year’s Adopt-A-Cat Month by taking in your own fuzzy friend. Did you know more cats are euthanized in shelters than dogs?

If you can’t take in your own kitty, you can still celebrate this great holiday though by voting for Petfinder.com’s The Whisker’s Contest, or by enjoying the article I wrote for Neatorama about the World’s most famous cats.

Support Shelter Pets With Stamps

To raise awareness about the plight of rescue animals, the United States Post Office has released a series of stamps celebrating once homeless animals. Of the ten animals included, four cats and four dogs, all but one have already found homes and with a his face on a stamp, I doubt the last kitty will have any trouble finding a new home.

A Novel Approach To Saving Pups

California has been suffering from an overpopulation of chihuahuas this year, in part thanks to idiotic things like Legally Blonde, Beverly Hills Chihuahua and Paris Hilton. The shelters are loaded up with the little guys, but there is hope. A number of organizations have been taking chihuahuas to other states where they will have better odds of being adopted.

The sweetie seen above is one of fifteen to be flown for free on Virgin America a few weeks ago in order to find them new homes in New York. Passengers on the flight were offered a free round of cocktails to celebrate the event. Now there’s a plane I wouldn’t mind being on.

Vote On Your Favorite Shelter Animal

Petside has a great contest where you can choose your favorite of 15 shelter animals. Every shelter included in the contest will be recieving a donation and the shelter that houses the winning pet will recieve $2500 towards vacinations. One great thing about the contest is that you get to see how many of the 15 have already been adopted.

Adoption Ad To Be Shown In Superbowl

Hooray for Pedigree, they will be pushing their adoption campaign during the Superbowl instead of a normal commercial supporting their food. Ohmidog has more.

Discount Dog Adoptions In December

Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter is offering discount animal adoptions for the rest of the month and dogs over 2 years old are free.

If you’re looking for a new pet and are in the Baltimore area, don’t miss out on this great chance to get a new muttski in your family.

If you aren’t in that area, you still may check your local shelter for recession specials, as many places are getting flooded with abandoned pets from families who can no longer afford them.
