This pup was saved in her final hour before euthanasia. While the authorities thought it was aggressive, it turns out the poor dog was just scared. It’s now a happy rescue success story.

Joanne Lefson adopted Oscar from the local shelter in her hometown of Capetown, South Africa. He was one day away from euthanization. After a short period of falling in love with her new best friend, Joanne realized that there were way too many potential companions locked up in shelters around the globe.

To help make a difference in the lives of animals throughout the world, Joanne took it upon herself to sell her home and take Oscar on a $40,000 trip around the world to help bring attention to the plight of shelter pets. To the left, you can see Oscar at Machu Picchu.

During their trip, Joanne and Oscar fell in love with another pup in Romania, and their new friend Zara will soon join them at their permanent home in South Africa.

Saving Shelter Pets is one of my favorite charities and right now, you can buy this very cool painting of a mutt on eBay to support their cause. Only 6 days left, so hurry.

Niche Dog Blogs

I like the idea of niche dog blogs…I mean, this is a bit niche itself right? But at the same time that Muttskis and Fuck Yeah! Animals With Casts work becauese they’re niche, Ican’t help but think that DogBlog, which specializes exclusively in dogs in San Francisco that are tied to things, might be a little too niche. There are some cute dogs here, but surely the being tied to things is going to get old. Thoughts?

shelter-contest

Petside has a great contest where you can choose your favorite of 15 shelter animals. Every shelter included in the contest will be recieving a donation and the shelter that houses the winning pet will recieve $2500 towards vacinations. One great thing about the contest is that you get to see how many of the 15 have already been adopted.

2506166767_11f29e97f1Purebred mutts have been bred for their looks for so long that they are now starting to become more stupid and less agile as a result.

Score one more point for little mutts in the world.

Hooray for Pedigree, they will be pushing their adoption campaign during the Superbowl instead of a normal commercial supporting their food. Ohmidog has more.

I know this news is a little old, but it fits the theme of Muttskis pretty well. Present Obama discussed adopting his new puppy from the pound in his first press conference on November 7. In his interview, he said he associates well with mutts, because they’re like him.

Go Obama and go mutts!
